The Gates shows the importance of accents in creating an accompaniment that grooves
On the right hand we will just play quarter notes using voicings where we double the octave. The secret here is to alternate between soft staccato notes (really short notes) on the strong beats 1 & 3 and notes with and accent on the weak beats of the measure 2 & 4.
The staccato notes should be as soft as possible, almost like ghost notes, while the accented notes should be heavy and loud. This is really important to establish the groove correctly.
The left hand plays the root in octaves using an eighth-note alternating rolling pattern. Play it smoothly.
